Chugach State Park contains 6 Snowmobile areas located throughout the park. Most of the loops in the campground are groomed for cross country skiing. View Items on Map. The Eagle River Nature Center, which sits at an entrance to Chugach State Park, is 12 miles (19 km) up Eagle River Road. Arctic Valley is one of the first Chugach State Park access points north of Anchorage. Located in Anchorage's backyard, this park is known to be the playground for many Alaskans in all weather. Dogs are allowed in all three state park campgrounds and on trails if kept on a leash and under control.
